History

The department of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility started its journey as Infertility unit in outpatient settings on 1st December, 2003.  Dr. Parveen Fatima, the then Associate Professor of the  Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, was the Head of Infertility unit with Dr Jesmine Banu as Assistant Professor, Dr Suraiya Jahan Rolly, Dr.Itrat Aziz and Dr Anjuman Ara Begum as Medical Officers. Indoor services started after seven month. We, the Infertility unit first introduced laparoscopic surgery to the Obgyn  department of our university in July 2004. The Andrology lab for semen analysis was functional in 2005 and the procedure of intrauterine insemination was first performed in 2008. Bangladesh College of Physicians recognized this unit as centre for training the postgraduate fellows interested to pursue FCPS sub-speciality in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. We have FCPS (Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility) trainees since 2013. The MS Residency program (phase A & phase B) in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility (REI) started in March 2017. Infertility unit of the Dept of Obstetrics & Gynecology came into being the Department of Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility in July, 2018.  Prof. Parveen Fatima was the founder Chairman of the department. On retirement of Prof Parveen Fatima , Prof. Jesmine Banu headed the department as Chairman from 28th April 2019 to 6th May, 2025. Admission of postgraduate (FCPS & MS in Obgyn) doctors for MS phase B residency in Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility started in 2022.
